Meet Mary

I’m Mary Goddard, a Tlingit artist, filmmaker, and cultural educator. I am Kaagwaantaan, Eagle, from the Bear and Drum House from Klukwan. Raised in Yakutat and now living in Sitka, my work grows from my relationships with family, community, and the lands and waters of Southeast Alaska.

Art, food, and storytelling have become ways for me to explore, practice, and share cultural knowledge. Whether I’m creating jewelry, making a film, or gathering people around a shared experience, I invite connection—with place, with culture, and with one another.

Creating Pathways for Connection

I’m interested in how cultural knowledge lives in the choices we make, the stories we tell, and the ways we care for one another. My work creates contemporary ways to engage with that knowledge—through a piece of jewelry, a film in Lingít, a shared meal, or time spent learning on the land.

For Indigenous participants, these experiences can offer opportunities for connection and exploration. For non-Indigenous participants, they invite a deeper understanding of the people and relationships that shape this place. I bring my own Tlingit perspectives and lived experience to each project, while continuing to learn alongside others.
